Mexico stays without loss in the first two rounds of the World Cup – Volleyball News
The pairings of Revuelta-Virgen and Candelas-Garcia from Mexico
opened the 2012 FIVB Women’s Beach Volleyball World Cup on a good note and
claimed a perfect record of 4-0 in the opening two rounds of the tournaement
In Round-1 of the Pool-Play, the Mexican ladies were challenged by
rivals from Mozambique. The duo of Revuelta-Virgen took on A. CUMBI-R.CUMBI
from Mozambique. The Mexican team proved to be better in every aspect of the
game and held off opponents for 2-0 (21-9, 21-10) victory.
Revuelta enjoyed a top form in the competition and showcased a skilful
play. Equally talented Virgen played her part and perfectly complimented her
partner in the match. In the first set, Mexico put huge pressure on Mozambique
with the help of solid serves and spikes. The ball frequently landed on
Mozambique’s side, which raised Mexico’s score by leaps and bounds. Mexican
pair quickly covered the length of first set and followed the same approach in
the second set. A. CUMBI and R. CUMBI failed to cope with the power of strong
Mexican duo and accepted defeat in straight sets.
Next up, Mexico’s Candelas and Garcia proved their potential in the
second match of first round. They defeated Chongo-COSSA from Mozambique in the
similar fashion and settled for 2-0 victory. The match decision was out in 25
minutes, while the scoreboard showed final score of (21-15, 21-12).
Both Mexican pairs claimed their opening matches and advanced to the
Round-2 of the 2012 FIVB Women’s Beach Volleyball World Cup.
Following a great success in the opening round, Mexican ladies met
duos from Kazakhstan in the second round of the competition. Kazakhstan’s Tsimbalova and Mashkova, who lost their first match to Dutch counterparts in round-1, came into stride with of Revuelta-Virgen in the second match.
Kazakh duo made a strong opening in the match and picked up an early
lead. With the help of good attacks and solid defence, the Kazakhs captured
opening frame of the match. They sent 21-16 on board to win the set. Mexican
pair dropped the opening set, but managed to control the operations of the game
in the following two sets. Revuelta and Virgen went up and scored back to back wins.
Despite a good start in the match, Kazakhs lost the fight.
Candelas-Garcia edged out Kazakhstan’s Samalikova-Bogatu in the fourth match and led Mexico to 4-0 record.
