Mexico sweeps Slovakia in a Pool D match of FIVB Girl’s Youth World Championship
A Pool D match of the FIVB Girl’s Youth World Championship took place between Mexico and Slovakia on the 14th August in Ankara, Turkey.
The venue of the competition was the Ankara Sports Hall. What followed at the courts when the two teams locked horns together was a sweep of the Slovakians by the Mexicans. The win has earned Mexico their first win in the tournament yet.
The first set of the match started tough but the Mexicans were able to get their way in the end. The performance of the Slovakians experienced a downfall in the second set and the Mexicans won it by a comfortable margin.
Slovakia could not get their act together on the third set either and gave away the frame to the Mexicans without putting up much of a fight as a result, the Mexicans won the match at the following final set scores: 25-21, 25-18 and 25-14.
The coach of the Mexican team, Victor Garcia, shared his feelings by giving these statements, “We experienced a difficult start today, but played better and better as the match went on. We won’t make it to the top eight round, but we’ll do our best in the
classification round.”
On the other hand, the Slovakian coach, Eva Kosekova, made the following statements, “I have no words for today’s performance. My team played without determination. We prepared mentally, but there was no fire on the court. Congratulations to Mexico.”
The first set of the match remained tough from the start with no team getting a significant lead at any point. However, as the frame reached its final stages, the Mexicans were able to push past ahead and take the advantage that led them to an opening set
win at 25-21.
As the second technical time out was reached in the second set, the Mexicans were leading at 16-9 but the Slovakians put up a good show by restricting the Mexicans and closed in the gap at 16-14. The score came as close as 22-21 but remained in the favour
of the Mexicans who were able to bag a win at 25-21.
The third set saw the Mexicans come out strong and head comfortably towards the end of the set while the Slovakians were putting in a half hearted effort in the game. As a result, the third and final set was taken by the Mexicans at 25-14.
The player that was able to register the most points all through the match was the Mexican Samantha Bricio as she scored 12 points while the Slovakian Miroslava Rehakova was able the tally a total of nine points.
The recent win has enabled the Mexicans to score show a record of 2-1 while the Slovakians are shouldering a record of 0-3.
