I am travelling to Mexico soon and i want to take Syndols with me which contain codeine. I know some countries codeine is banned and i just wondered if anyone knows whether i am able to take these with me. I suffer bad headaches and these are the only pain killers able to take the pain away. Many thanks

  1. When travelling it is always best to carry your prescribed medications in the original labelled prescription container. Also, unless you will be in the country for an extended period of time, do not take more than a one month prescription with you.

Finally, it should be understood that codeine is not a very good medication for headaches or migraines.  It commonly causes rebound headaches, is only marginally better than paracetamol alone, and has a much higher risk profile, including addiction potential.

  2. i advice you not take it with you i advice you to mail to the place your staying with a doctor note saying that you are able to take that medication

  3. Codeine is now considered a poor choice for pain management. This drug is shown to be barely more effective than basic paracetamol. This drug is also addictive (Codeine is an opiate derivative

Either way, I'd recommend taking basic paracetamol and avoiding co-codamol like the plague.

I could be just being bias though, my mother is a Dr and gives me a long lecture whenever I mention co-codamol being used!!

I know isn't what you were asking, but basically I'd be inclined to take normal paracetamol with you

  4. You can buy codeine in Mexico off the counter, prescription free. =P

Spring Break is a lot of fun in Mexico =D

  5. If they are prescribed in your name and you have them in the bottle they came in...you should be fine. Are you driving or flying? You could go to the border patrol website and see what they allow and don't allow into Mexico

  6. If they are prescribed to you you should be able to take them just about anywhere,,,specially Mexico.  I went about 4 years ago and was on Hydrocodone at the time and they didn't even check my bags.

  7. Mexico law is completely subjective to the officers you deal with.  My advice would be to have it in a marked prescription container and just say its for headaches and you dont know whats in it.  I doubt that any officials you deal with in mexico will know whats in it.  Just in case tape a hundred dollar bill somewhere where no one could find it and if push comes to shove there is very little that $100 bucks wont buy you out of in Mexico.
