  1. If you're getting a drink at a bar, just do NOT get ice in it, and if you ask for water anywhere, ask that it be bottled. Obviously soda drinks/alcohol/etc are manufactured, so they won't make you sick--but anything from the tap will (and ice is made from tap water.) You should also brush your teeth with bottled water.

    Have fun!

  2. Consider an excursion/tour offered by the cruise lines.  Each one is sanctioned by them to have drinkable beverages to include the ice and water.  If in doubt about the water, take your own bottle of water from the ship (they sell a liter bottle from $1.50+).  Even on some of the excursions, the tour guide will tell you about the water and some even give guests a bottle of water.  To be on the safe side, I always take a bottle of water with me.

  3. I agree with XO but another tip is to avoid eating anything washed with their tap water.  A good example of this is salad, vegetables and fruits.  I had a friend that had a salad in Mexico and she got really sick.

  4. order stuff without ice because the ice is made from the water.

Bottled beer is your best bet.

Use bottled water to brush your teeth if you are concerned as well.

  5. not sure what part of Mexico you are going to, but we drank beer or soft drinks while in our ports.

We were on a Royal Caribbean ship and they actually were selling bottled water as we were exiting the ship, so we usually grabbed one and took it with us, just in case.

We were in Cozumel and you could get Coke and other soft drinks in many of the stores in the shopping district.

  6. I just came back from a cruise to Cozumel.  We all had either pina coladas or margarita's at a local bar and we were fine. If I was drinking just water, I would definitely drink bottled water.  Have fun!

  7. Resorts and tourist destinations and, for that matter, all restaurants use bottled water for serving, cooking and for making ICE.  They would not stay in business if they served tap water and made lots of people sick.

  8. Bring with you imodium just in case. I was on a tour to see some whales and they offered me water. I asumed it was bottled water. I guess it was not, but the imodium took care of things. It is not that the water is bad, it is just that they were born drinking it and we wern't. There systems are use to there water.
