Mia St. John heading for title defence against Molly McConnell – Boxing News
Mia St. John, WBC female super welterweight champion, will be defending her title against Molly McConnell of Seattle on November 10. The fight will headline the ‘Fight For Life’ charity show being held in Bakersfield, California on Saturday. This will be
Mia’s first ever title defence. The fight will be a 10-round showdown with three other fights on the card.
The event is being presented by Roy Englebrecht Promotions in order to raise funds within the Bakersfield community for cancer patients. The entire revenue generated by the event will be donated to families struggling with cancer. Kern County Community Cancer
Fund is the main beneficiary of the event. KCCC provides assistance to families who need help in covering their insurance premiums or to families without insurance.
Mia ‘The Knockout’ St. John currently stands with 47 wins, 11 losses, 2 ties and 18 knockouts in her career. She is an icon when it comes to women boxing, as she has inspired many others to join the league. Mia became a professional in 1997, and since then
has been a part of some highly anticipated fight cards. She has fought the best in the industry such as Holly Holm, Jelena Mrdjenovich and Jessica Rakoczy.
Even though Mia has won most of her major fights, her biggest loss to date was against Christy Martin in 2002. However, she successfully defeated Martin on August 14 in a rematch, winning the WBC championship.
“I am excited to defend my new WBC World Title for the first time. This belt belongs to me and no one will take if from me!” said Mia while talking about her first title defence.
On the other hand, McConnell believes it is her chance to do something big in her career. “I’ve been looking forward to a fight like this my whole career and I’m really excited to be fighting Mia for her WBC Belt. Mia has been in with some of the best and
is very experienced, so I can’t wait to get in the ring with her. I am grateful for this opportunity,” said McConnell when asked about the fight.
