Miami Dolphin players at a loss over Tony Sparano’s firing – NFL News
The sacking of Coach Tony Sparano has left the Miami Dolphin players at a loss. The firing which came with just three games remaining has left the players baffled.
Many key players were sorry to see Sparano leave. They included Dan Carpenter, Will Allen, Chad Henne, and Davone Bess. These players expressed their views to the media while attending the annual Fins for Kids Holiday Toy Event.
Quarterback Chad Henne was upset by the news and called the way Sparano had to leave a shame. He wished that he could have spent a year more with him. The quarterback thanked Sparano for having drafted him and added that in the
end it is the coach or the quarterback who has to take the blame mostly.
Defensive Back Allen was more emotional equating the loss of Sparano to losing a family member. Allen said that since we are graded on wins and losses, Sparano had to take the responsibility.
Dan Carpenter responding to a question on whether Sparano should have stayed for the whole season, said that it was not his matter. He said that was the decision that general manager Jeff Ireland and owner Stephen Ross had to take.
"It is what it is and it's a business. Management and players, we all have responsibilities. If you're not productive with what you're doing they want to find someone who could get it done." wide receiver Davone Bess said.
Running back Reggie Bush had already expressed his surprise a day earlier on the internet saying we would miss Sparano.
Sparano meanwhile in a statement thanked the team members and his fans for the support they had extended to him. He said that it was an honour having served as the Head Coach for the Dolphins. He termed the time spent with Dolphins
a “special time” in his life, saying he would soon resume his coaching career again.
Sparano with a record of 29-32 was fired on Monday following a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. During Sparano’s tenure the Dolphins gained the AFC East title in 2008 and managed to reach the playoffs.
The Dolphins' assistant head coach and secondary coach will now act as the interim coach for the remainder of the three games.
