Miami Dolphins, LB Cameron Wake agree 4-year, $49 million deal-NFL News
The Miami Dolphins are reported to have agreed to fresh deal terms with linebacker, Cameron Wake.
Wake’s contract was due to expire later this year and a section of media has now reported that both parties have agreed to a four-year extension to the player’s deal.
A number of anonymous people who are privy to these developments are quoted in the news report claiming the extension’s total worth at $49 million.
The deal, which the two stakeholders are said to have signed on Sunday, May 27, carries the base payout of $33.2 million.
An amount of $15 million in escalators is also said to be part of the total value of the contract.
Moreover, the player has $17 million as guaranteed money with $3 million guaranteed for injuries.
No further comments have come from either of the stakeholders on the matter.
Wake’s last year’s record at Dolphins includes 42 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
The reports around the possibility of the player getting an extension had emerged earlier last month but since the management was apparently occupied with the draft, no real progress had been reported then.
In spite of the speculations around the prospects of the management agreeing to fresh deal terms with the player, the team officials had remained tight-lipped throughout.
Apparently, the player’s agent was abreast with the developments on the deal issue, so there was no fuss as such from the player’s end.
Now with having earned the extension, Wake becomes the first player to have been re-signed by the team since landing deals to their draft players.
After receiving the job security, the player is said to be aiming for a notable improvement in his form and performance.
Some of Dolphins’ players have already spoken of the ambitions of making it to the conference championship game this year and performance of the players like Wake stands crucial to fulfilling their objectives.
