Miami Dolphins Brandon Marshall hospitalised after being stabbed by wife – NFL news
Brandon Marshall, wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was rushed to a hospital near his home in Southwest Ranches in Davie, Florida on Friday.
The police were called to his residence who found that Marshall had a punctured abdomen and had wounds on his hands.
At the time, Marshall provided sworn testimony that he had slipped and fallen on a broken vase in his home but there was no blood in the area of the broken vase, causing suspicion as to exactly what happened.
Marshall’s wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, admitted that she had stabbed Marshall in the stomach while being read her Miranda rights, but said that she had done so in self defence. The 26-year-old was then charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Nogami-Marshall was bailed out of an area jail on a $7,500 bail and the police report did not list any attorney for her.
Greg Aiello, spokesman for the NFL said that although the National Football League lockout prohibits contact between players and teams, team doctors are allowed to attend to players and the team is permitted to express well wishes.
The couple married in July 2010 in Miami, Florida after meeting when they both studied at the University of Central Florida.
This is not the first time that Marshall has had trouble with the law. In 2009, Marshall and Nogami-Marshall, who were engaged at the time, were involved in a fight but charges of misdemeanour battery were dropped after the two refused to testify against
each other.
Marshall was also involved in a fight on New Year’s Eve in 2007 that later led to a drive-by shooting in which his teammate at the time, the Denver Broncos’ Darrent Williams, was killed.
Marshall was also involved in a domestic incident with his then-girlfriend, who said that he had blocked the taxi she was in with his vehicle after she was leaving following an argument. A couple of months after that incident, he was arrested for driving
while under the influence of alcohol and again in June of 2008 for an illegal change of lanes, after which Marshall failed to provide a drivers license or proof of vehicle insurance.
According to a news article published on July 28, 2008, the Douglas County police department had received about 11 calls to their emergency line between January 2006 and July 2008. Just two months after the article was published, Marshall was booked on misdemeanour
battery charges for an incident that occurred in March of the same year.
Even with all of the legal troubles, Marshall has broken several NFL receiving records. He holds the NFL record for the most receptions in a single game with 21 as well as the third most in a game with 18. He also holds the record for most receptions in
five straight games with 55. Aside from these, Marshall also possesses five more records and milestones in receiving, all of which are from his stint with the Denver Broncos.
