Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland, owner Stephen Ross refute impression of lacking strategy-NFL News
Miami Dolphins’ bosses have finally pulled out of fighting off the perception of lacking a strategy and plan for rebuilding the side to a better outfit when it comes out for the 2012/13
National Football League (NFL) season in September this year.
No one knows better to fight off a wave of criticism and negativity than the team’s general manager, Jeff Ireland, who said to have learnt a lot about being “the hero and the goat” during
his days as a kicker in college.
He made this remark to the media, attempting to appear casual at the NFL annual meeting at Palm Beach, earlier last week.
Again, the official seemed to be lacking a sound answer to the team’s vows and persistent wave of criticism from fans, commentators and some of the players, who think the team is in a
phase of uncertainty and the managers are unable to give it a sense of direction.
Further to his comments, the owner, Stephen Ross, has also come defending themselves against all the battering they have been receiving lately.
He said:
"You're always going to find somebody that's going to say something [negative] for whatever reason.”
The owner added:
“Players might say that because they didn't make the team. Other players came here and we didn't meet their salary demands. People always want to say something
because they like being in the spotlight often times. I wouldn't go with what one or two people might say."
Ross just like his GM refuted the impression that the team lacked a vision and sense of direction and said they were very much on the opportunity of rebuilding the squad at certain positions.
His reference was to the recently launched campaign for signing extensions into the deal of what he calls the core players of the team, whose current contracts are set to expire this year.
None of the two officials commented on the aspects of their failure to convince former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, to consider Miami Dolphins as to be his future team.
Dolphins were said to be interested in bringing the star QB to Miami but somehow failed in their efforts despite that the player visited the team’s headquarters and had meetings with the
officials.
Some commentators and particularly fans were not satisfied with the efforts that the managers made towards signing Peyton Manning, who eventually went to the Denver Broncos. They said
the management had not made serious efforts for signing him off the free agency.
However, the management has refuted that impression saying that they were as much serious in signing Peyton Manning as all other contenders for the player.
Apparently, fans are not satisfied with the management’s ongoing efforts of rebuilding and at an occasion held out to protest in front of the team’s headquarters.
