Miami Dolphins’ Jason Taylor confirms retirement – NFL News
Miami Dolphins linebacker Jason Taylor has confirmed that he is retiring after his last game on Sunday. So news that was earlier circulating that the sack leader is set to resign at the end of this season has been confirmed.
Taylor talking to the media after practice on Wednesday said that the upcoming game on Sunday would be his last. This had already been reported by the Miami Herald on Tuesday.
Taylor for most part of his career spent his time with the Miami Dolphins. A time period that spanned thirteen seasons out of a total of fifteen. Two seasons he spent playing for the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets. And
now he will conclude his career with a game against the New York Jets.
The Dolphins’ linebacker has collected 139.5 sacks in his career which is one of the highest in the history of NFL. Taylor is currently ranked sixth on the NFL list after Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Kevin Greene, Chris Doleman and
Michael Strahan. No other Dolphins player has ever achieved this milestone.
Owner Stephen Ross was sorry to see him leave.
"His contributions on the field as one of the greatest players in team history will be remembered by Dolphins fans for years to come. He will always remain an integral part of the Dolphin family." Ross said.
Taylor’s time with the Jets was remembered by the Jets coach Rex Ryan who said that he was happy to have had him in the team. Taylor had helped the Jets reach the AFC championship game in 2010.
It is not clear what Taylor would be doing after his retirement but it seems clear that he wont be doing anything for the league. This looked evident after he said that he may change his number in order to avoid getting contacted.
"Nothing is going to replace professional football. There's no place like an NFL locker room. Those guys become your family for seven months of the year. You won't replace that. But I'll find something else." Taylor said.
The game this Sunday will be the 204th game of his career which was 15 years long. Taylor waa selected to the Pro Bowl six times and was awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2006.
Apart from being a footballer, Taylor has worked for a charity organization called the Jason Taylor Foundation which is a non-profit organization that helps needy children by providing them with education and healthcare. For this
he was named the 2007 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
