Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill rues mistakes in Atlanta Falcons game – NFL News
Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill admitted to have fallen below the mark in his performance in the game against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night which the Miami Dolphins conveniently lost, 6-23.
Both, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and Tannehill, conceded the quarterback was not hundred percent. He was particularly seen struggling with accuracy in his throws and protection in passes.
Ryan nevertheless is optimistic, weighing himself to have done reasonably well and seeing to be almost there. He said:
"I feel confident in where I'm at right now. We're really close. It's just a mistake here and a mistake there."
He added:
"We moved the ball pretty effectively, but we made mistakes on third down and in the red zone. All in all, not bad."
Joe also rued failure of the team to find rhythm and coherence in the plays, saying they could have done far better. The coach said:
"We didn't have a whole lot of rhythm. There were a couple that were dropped. I'm sure there were a couple where the accuracy could have been better. There were others where we could have had better protection. You know how that goes. Usually when it rains,
it pours. It wasn't pretty at all."
Although there was some improvement in Ryan’s form in Falcons’ game, he is still far away from claiming himself to be a right fit for the starting job – that the team should give him preference over injured David Garrard or incumbent Matt Moore.
Garrard is expected to return from his knee injury in a couple of weeks and he is most likely to be officially named the starting QB of Dolphins for the season. Once the leadership role is decided, Ryan is most likely to be placed at the number 2 or 3 position.
The preseason phase is a good opportunity for the rookie to gain experience as a QB, which he lacked while coming out of the college league earlier this year.
Although Ryan is analysed to be a quality talent, he needs training and grooming to handle the offence leadership role more effectively.
