Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas ruled out of Sunday’s game against Oakland Raiders – NFL News
Miami Dolphins have announced that their running back Daniel Thomas will miss the game against Oakland Raiders on Sunday, September 16, 2012.
Thomas attended the practice session on Friday, September 14, but did not participate in the team drills.
The player got a head injury in Dolphins’ season opener against Houston Texans when he was hit by strong safety Glover Quin during the second quarter of the game.
Thomas got a hit on his chin and was taken to the sidelines. He never had any head injury in his professional as well as college career. The Associated Press quoted Thomas as saying:
“I didn’t know what was going on. I never had a concussion before.”
Daniel was a good option to back up starting running back Reggie Bush. His absence means more playing time for rookie full back Jorvorskie Lane.
Dolphins rookie running back Lamar Miller might get his league debut on Sunday as well. Miller is excited about getting into the professional game for the first time. He said:
“It’s a great feeling. I’ve been playing there for three years. It’s just a blessing. A lot of people don’t get this opportunity. I’m just trying to take full advantage.”
Thomas had an average rookie season last year as he played in 13 games and started two of them. He covered 581 passing yards and received 165 passes. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry. This could be the reason behind Miller’s selection. Head coach Joe Philbin
said:
“Obviously Lamar Miller we drafted for a reason. We think highly of him. We think he’s going to be a good player in this league.”
Apart from Thomas, Dolphins have also ruled out wide receiver Anthony Armstrong, who is out with a hamstring injury, while defensive lineman Tony McDaniel is declared out with a knee injury.
Dolphins’ running game looked miserable during Week 1 game against Texans defence as they averaged just 4.2 yards per carry.
Dolphins drafted Thomas in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2011 draft. He is yet to score his first touchdown in the league.
