Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline sees potential in QB Ryan Tannehill as starter – NFL News
While the Miami Dolphins are yet indecisive to confirm if rookie quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, has credentials to be placed on the starting line straightaway, the player has found a supporting voice within the team – wide receiver, Brian Hartline – who sees
the rookie full of potential to perform in the leading role.
Dolphins gave Ryan an opportunity to take snaps with starters on last day of their three-day mandatory minicamp. The first impression emerging from the field was that the rookie was unable to impress coach, Joe Philbin.
Joe was not surprised by the QB’s performance given that he hardly has a year of experience as a QB in the college league. This left Tannehill to be considered as a project, who needs some work on him before being able to lead the team’s offence.
Brian, who saw Ryan taking snaps on that day, is apparently convinced of his skills, if not impressed. He says the rookie managed quite well to gain control over the ball and there was a reflection of stability in his throws.
He said of the rookie:
"He's a guy that, he knows what he wants, he knows the offense. I think that definitely helps him a lot For me, I feel like the first couple of weeks, you hope to see flashes. Because you've got to have something there, and there's no doubt in my mind that
I saw flashes. The ball coming out of his hand is good, is great. His timing is really good. On a couple of routes, you can tell he's really comfortable. He can plant that foot and release without any gather step, so there's definitely some flashes.”
Hartline did not elaborate in clear terms if the rookie is ready for the starting role. It can be down to the reason that the QB still has training camp, starting later this month, and then preseason to further prove his talent and skills as a starter.
Independently, some analysts have projected him as a fit for the third position to start with. This view is based on his performance in the minicamp, and can be changed if the player stages a remarkable turnaround at the training camp.
