Miami Dolphins agree respective deals with DT Paul Soliai & DB Richard Marshall-NFL News
The Miami Dolphins confirmed on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, to have landed fresh deals to a pair of defensive players off the free agency market.
Paul Soliai, who was on a call for visit to the Denver Broncos, has been brought back on a two-year contract worth $12 million.
Half of the money, $6 million, is to be paid to the defensive tackle in guarantees over tenure of the contract, while another $6 million will go against his two-year salary.
Soliai made $12.5 million from the franchise tag he received last year.
Neither the player’s representatives nor the team’s officials have commented on the signing of the fresh deal. It certainly makes availability of the DT definite for the next couple of years.
Meanwhile, defensive back, Richard Marshall, confirmed through his tweets on Wednesday to have been handed over a contract by Dolphins’ management.
Marshall’s deal is for three years and is valued at $16 million. The payout includes $6 million in guarantees and rest in the player’s wages.
The player is reported to be happy over signing the deal, which gives him an opportunity of playing for the side in the medium run.
Dolphins had 3-4 defence arrangement during the 2011-12 National Football League (NFL) season, and Soliai was the main player in the setup.
Now, the team with new coach, Joe Philbin, in place, is planning to come out with 4-3 arrangement in the 2012-13 season, and Soliai’s presence will be even more crucial to prove the efficiency of the new setup.
It will be interesting to see how the team’s defence performs under the new head coach and in new arrangement.
Dolphins sacked their former head coach into later part of the past regular season and are coming out into the next season with new official.
Meanwhile, the second signee, Richard Marshall, is joining Dolphins after deserting the Arizona Cardinals, where he started nine games while playing 16 during the last season.
At Dolphins, he will be competing for the job of nickel-back and will be as much significant into the new defensive setup as Soliai and other defensive players.
The player has registered a total 17 interceptions in his six-year career, and is looking forward to improving the record while playing for Dolphins this season.
