Miami Dolphins centre Mike Pouncey apologises for team’s failure to win crunch games – NFL News
After losing two consecutive games in overtime, Miami Dolphins look frustrated for failing to finish off the games despite thrilling contest. Centre Mike Pouncey acknowledges the disappointment and issued an apology on Tuesday, October 02, 2012.
Pouncey published his statement through South Florida Sun-Sentinel, expressing his concerns about team’s loss against New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. In his statement, Pouncey said:
“Say sorry to the fans, it's all on us, those games we should've won. We got to finish these football games and we'll turn it around and be a winning football team down here . . . we got 12 more games and we will turn it around."
Dolphins (1-3) lost their Week 3 game 20-23 against Jets in overtime while they lost 21-24 in Week 4 against Cardinals. In both games, they looked capable of winning the tie, but failed towards the end.
Pouncey’s apology shows how the team has taken their defeats. This comes as a stark change to the Dolphins’ mindset.
The reason for a sudden change might lie in the performance of Dolphins offence which has been led by rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He could be a franchise quarterback if he overcomes his flaws.
Pouncey and the rest of the offence have also played major role in making the team more competitive against good sides. Pouncey also said:
"It's tough to let go of a game like that. We got to figure ways to make those plays at the end of football games. If you look at film and watch this team we should be 3-1 right now. Very frustrating.”
With the way the Dolphins are playing right now, it looks more likely that they will be able to get more wins in their bag as the season progresses. Dolphins face Cincinnati Bengals in their next game on October 07.
Many analysts are ranking Dolphins much higher this season as compared to the previous one. If the Dolphins continue to work with such a winning mentality, Pouncey might not have to issue public apology again.
