Miami Dolphins considering Kevin Coyle for defensive coordinator post – NFL News Update
The defensive backs coach of Cincinnati Bengals, Kevin Coyle will be interviewing with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday for their defensive coordinator post.
The newly appointed coach of the Dolphins, Joe Philbin could possibly hire Coyle as some news circulating suggest that Philbin is a strong supporter of Coyle. Philbin and Coyle are close friends even though they have never worked together in National Football
League (NFL).
Philbin, the former assistant coach of the Green Bay Packers was recently hired by the Dolphins’ owner, Stephen Ross and general manager Jeff Ireland as the new head coach sidelining their former interim coach Todd Bowles.
It seems that Bowles has also been sidelined for the defensive coordinator position. Bowles has been brought forward as the interim coach after coach Tony Sparano was fired following Dolphins elimination from the playoffs.
Ross had wanted to see a change in the team as he hoped to transform the team into a winning organisation. He had Sparano replaced with Bowles even though there were only three games remaining in the season.
Bowles had done a remarkably good job leading his team 2-1 in the last three games he coached. Bowles had been one of the candidates for the head coach slot for the Dolphins’ until recently when he was overlooked by Ross and Ireland who decided to bring
in Philbin instead.
It now seems that Bowles may have fallen out of favour by the team management and may not be considered even for the defensive position.
Bowles is a respected defensive assistant and bears a specialist mind and it had seemed imminent that after the hiring of Philbin as the head coach, the Dolphins’ would retain him as their defensive assistant but now chances of him being hired look bleak.

Bowles was recently also not considered by the Oakland Raiders who would now be going for Dennis Allen as their new head coach.
Bowles had looked a strong candidate for the Raiders job after being interviewed by Raiders general manager, Reggie McKenzie. The Raiders were faced with a weakening defence which had been the primary reason for them being eliminated from the playoffs.
It had seemed a strong possibility that Bowles would be taken on board by the Raiders but he has now been sidelined.
Meanwhile the Bengals have given permission to the Dolphins’ to interview Coyle.
Coyle has been with the Bengals since 2001, serving as a secondary coach for nine seasons.
