Miami Dolphins edge division rivals Buffalo Bills to get 24-10 victory in Week 16 – NFL Recap
Thanks to overall performance on both sides of the ball, Miami Dolphins got a sparkling 24-10 victory over American Football Conference (AFC) East opponents Buffalo Bills in Week 16 on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Sun Life Stadium, Miami,
Florida.
By the time the game ended, Dolphins were still in the playoff contention. However, six minutes later, the Phins were out of the playoff race as Cincinnati Bengals came out victorious against Pittsburgh Steelers in their game.
Bills, on the other hand, came into this game already out of the playoff race for 13th time in a row.
Even though Bills have now got 10 or more losses for third season in a row, head coach Chan Gailey still insists that he is not worried about his future. According to the Associated Press, Gailey said:
"No, I worry about getting better ... playing to our abilities, which we haven't done, and that's my responsibility to get that done."
Dolphins (7-8) got a surprising performance from running back Reggie Bush who caught two touchdown passes as well as ran for another to give his team the victory.
The defence also made big strides even though the team put up a makeshift secondary for the game due to injuries to their starters.
Safety Reshad Jones recovered two fumbles during the game and also made an interception to secure a superb performance by the defensive team. Talking after the game, Jones said:
“I just told the guys somebody’s got to make a play right now because we need to stop these guys from getting in the end zone. We had a good pass rush, the front seven did a tremendous job and I just came up with the big play. I was just
playing my technique and it was just instinct. I don’t know how I made that play. It was a crazy play to make and I just made it.”
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill gave his third turnover-free performance in a row and finished with a quarterback rating of 93.8. He completed 13 out of 25 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Bills looked dismal on both sides of the game. The team gave as many as 11 penalties during the game.
The first quarter of the game ended with a 7-0 lead for Dolphins thanks to a passing touchdown from Tannehill.
Bills got a field goal early in the second quarter, but Dolphins strengthened the lead later on with another touchdown pass by Tannehill to Bush as the first half ended at 14-3.
Dolphins went rampant in the third quarter as Bush got a rushing touchdown which was followed by a field goal to take the score to 24-3 at the end of the third quarter.
Bills got a touchdown in the final quarter. However, it was not enough as Dolphins won the game 24-10.
