Miami Dolphins end New York Jets’ playoff hopes - NFL Recap
Miami Dolphins ended New York Jets hopes of reaching the playoffs in their home ground by overcoming their AFC East rivals 19-17.
So the playoffs chances for the Jets ended and so did the boasts of Jets’ coach Rex Ryan. Ryan who just recently had to endure the humiliating defeat at the hands of the New York Giants whom he had dubbed as the less better team now found his claims of winning
the Super Bowl going down the drain. Being beaten by a team that stood at 5-10 was not exactly what he had expected.
To make it the day for the Dolphins was Jets own quarterback Mark Sanchez who dropped in three interceptions in the game. He was no different from his performance last week in which he went for three turnovers against the Giants. Sanchez had vigorously defended
himself at a news conference but failed to live up to his words in this game as the Jets ended their season with three straight defeats. Sanchez completed 21 of 32 passes for 207 yards for two touchdowns. His counterpart, Matt Moore completed 22 of 32 passes
for 135 yards and one score while giving in two interceptions.
The Dolphins took the initial lead in the game as Dan Carpenter went in for a 44 yard field goal only to be replied with a touchdown by Dustin Keller off the pass of Sanchez. The Jets surged further head in the second quarter with a 31-yard field goal by
Nick Folk taking the lead to 10-3. The Dolphins struck back with a second 59-yard field goal by Carpenter.
The fourth quarter featured a comeback by the Dolphins as Charles Clay took a touchdown pass from Moore followed by another two field goals by Carpenter that made the Jets trail behind by 9 points. The Jets could not end the trail despite a 10-yard touchdown
pass by Sanchez to Patrick Turner.
All three interceptions had resulted in field goals and Ryan blamed them for the defeat.
"The interceptions obviously were backbreakers," Ryan said.
A delighted Dolphins team celebrated their victory in the locker room as they avoided ended up last in their division. An emotional Jason Taylor who had earlier announced that it was his last game spoke his heart out.
"It was a good way to end this thing. To beat your No. 1 rivals in your home stadium in your last game,"
The defeat is surely going to make Sanchez and offensive coordinator Brain Schottenheimer take in the heat for the debacle. They have already been under a lot of fire for their poor performance. They had earlier succeeded in finding support from their coach
who came to their rescue by saying he had confidence in both of his men. However, now with playoffs hopes ended and three consecutive poor performances, things are really going to be bleak for both the men.
