Miami Dolphins get their third win in a row with 30-9 victory over New York Jets – NFL Week 8 Recap
After all the fuss in the media last week, Miami Dolphins made a statement with a 30-9 thumping of their American Football Conference (AFC) East rivals New York Jets in Week 8 on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford New Jersey.
With both sides talking big before the game, it ended up being a one-sided affair as Dolphins backup quarterback Matt Moore completely manhandled the Jets defence.
Starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill got injured in the Dolphins’ second possession of the game. He injured his quadriceps and left knee while getting a sack from Jets linebacker Calvin Pace.
Tannehill was replaced by Moore who finished the game with 11 of 19 for 131 yards and a touchdown. During postgame press conference Moore said:
"It feels good to do no more talking and feels even better to back it up. Our special teams put us in great situation to win this, but we were ready as soon as we stepped off the bus."
Kicker Dan Carpenter scored in all three attempts for field goal. Dolphins’ running game looked spectacular as running back Reggie Bush finished the game with 14 carries for 59 yards. According to The Associated Press, Bush said:
"It was very satisfying for us, as good as it gets. We wanted to have the opportunity to jump on them early and we accomplished that. Once we got them down early, I thought that was it."
Running back Daniel Thomas also had a good game as he carried the ball 15 times for 42 yards and scored a touchdown.
Jets offence was aiming high before the game, but never got started. They failed to score a point in the first half. Jets head coach Rex Ryan was disappointed with the performance of his team. He said:
"To say I never saw this coming is an understatement. This one, no question, is a tough one to accept."
Sanchez again looked lacklustre on the field as he failed to connect with his receivers on many occasions. He completed a meagre 28 out of 54 passes for 283 yards and scored a touchdown.
Dolphins got a great start to the game as they scored 10 points in the first quarter which was followed up with another 10 points in the second quarter to finish the first half 20-0.
It included two field goals from Carpenter and defensive end Olivier Vernon’s blocked punt returned for a touchdown.
Jets finally scored their first points in the third quarter of the game with a field goal from kicker Nick Folk. Then a touchdown pass from Moore took the Dolphins lead to 27-3.
In the final quarter, Jets scored their first touchdown of the game with a five-yard pass from Sanchez. Dolphins scored their final points of the game with another field goal from Carpenter. The game ended 30-9.
