Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin believes team has good depth in secondary – NFL News
After an extraordinary performance by backup defensive players of Miami Dolphins in Week 15 game against Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Joe Philbin has come out and appreciated the secondary for putting up a good show.
During the first quarter of the 24-3 victory over Jaguars, starting defensive end Chris Clemons and cornerback Nolan Carroll left the field with injuries.
However, the secondary remained stout under presence of backup defensive backs Bryan McCann, Julian Posey and R.J. Stanford.
All three stepped up to the occasion and gave a superb performance as they kept Jaguars offence from scoring a touchdown throughout the game. Appreciating their performance, Philbin said:
“It’s been a good competitive atmosphere for these couple of days. Obviously, we’ve been around Stanford and McCann for a while now and those guys both made a nice contribution on Sunday. Posey’s a guy that’s been working his tail off, loves the game, real
competitive guy. And then we’re trying to find out as much as we can about Patterson here in a short period of time and see where he’s at.”
Posey has recently been promoted to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad. Meanwhile, cornerback Dimitri Patterson was only acquired last week off waivers from Cleveland Browns.
The player believes he has arrived at right team where he would be able to get more playing time. He watched last week as the backup players gave their best. Giving his views about the team’s performance, Patterson said:
“It brought back memories of watching Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, Brock Marion, Tim Bowens, Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas and Adewale Ogunleye. That was one of the best defences to me.”
Patterson has played with five different teams that include Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs and Browns.
The veteran has the experience to help the team grow better as many of the players in the defensive team are inexperienced.
Patterson has started 12 games in his career and posted 152 tackles in his career.
