Miami Dolphins linebacker Koa Misi arrested on battery charges stemming from months old bar fight-NFL News
Miami Dolphins are mum about the arrest of its linebacker, Koa Misi, over battery charges on Friday, March 30th, 2012.
Misi has been accused of battery and bodily injury, stemming from a fight in a local bar, reported to the local authorities several months ago.
Despite that, the police and independent sources confirmed apprehension of the player by local authorities, none of the team’s officials have offered any comments
on the incident and developments around it.
Misi has played for Dolphins for two consecutive years. He was allegedly involved in a bar fight later in the offseason and the case apparently remained pending
for months before surfacing again with the arrest of the player.
His arrest warrants were issued from California while the arrest made in his home in Weston, Fort Lauderdale.
A spokesman for Broward Sheriff's Office has confirmed to the media that the 25-year old player was arrested after they received warrants from California, adding
that everything happened peacefully without any disturbance.
The spokesman further confirmed that the arrest was made on the battery and bodily injury charges that had stemmed from a fight in the bar few months back. The
officers were contacted by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office in California for making the arrest.
Nothing much has been reported around details of the case, especially when the player was going to be presented before the court for his induction into the charges
and formal hearing of the case.
His lawyer is reported to be working on a waiver for extradition to California. The lawyer said that his client was going to enter a not guilty plea with regard
to those charges in the court.
Further details about the charges and prosecution’s stance and demand are expected to emerge from the first appearance of the player before the court and his
formal induction. However, the time and date of such hearing is not known yet.
Some of the news reports have hinted at the preliminary phase of the case which leaves it difficult to speculate deep details of it.
None of the family members of the players have said anything about the fight, arrest and following aspects of the case. Also, there is no information about the
possible penalty that the player can face in case he is found guilty of any of the charges.
Misi has played for Dolphins for last two successive seasons. His record includes 34 tackles and one quarterback sack. His performance has remained crucial to
the team’s victories.
Since there is no comment from the team about the arrest of the player, no one from commentators or media sections has speculated anything about his future prospects
in the professional football league and with Dolphins.
