Miami Dolphins little worried as QB David Garrard, RB Reggie Bush out of OTAs-NFL News
The Miami Dolphins have played down the absence of quarterback, David Garrard, from organised team activities (OTAs), saying it was not a cause of concern.
Garrard along with running back, Reggie Bush, was out of OTAs on the opening day, Tuesday, May 29.
Yet the management refused to press the panic button, explaining different reasons behind the player’s move.
Garrard, the team reported, is stuck in Jacksonville due to some problems with his home because of the stormy weather over the past weekend.
According to the management, Tropical Storm Beryl has caused damage to the player’s house in Jacksonville and he had to remain with his wife and family members.
The team has not elaborated on the timeline for the player’s return and it is expected that he might miss the entire first week of the activity.
It is not a good start for the veteran who is playing for Dolphins for the first time, competing for the starting position with the incumbent Matt Moore and rookie, Ryan Tannehill.
Tannehill, who was picked by the team in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28, is being projected for the starting role straightaway.
In spite of that Dolphins’ owner, Stephen Ross, said he would like to leave the role open for competition among three QBs.
The management has now assured not to linger on with the competition and set itself the deadline of August 24 to know who the starting QB will be in the 2012 season.
Even though the team has a sentiment in favour of the rookie, Garrard and Moore hold equal chances of winning the top role.
To this end, Garrard’s absence is no way a good development for his hopes of earning the starting role.
Dolphins have backed him to return as early as possible so that he can be as equally involved in the training and workout regimen of the team as others.
Meanwhile, the team has not thrown light on the absence of Bush. He did not show up for OTAs on the opening day. There was no update on his status until filing of this report.
