Miami Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross remains upbeat about ambitious rebuilding plans-NFL News
Miami Dolphins’ owner, Stephen Ross, has defended the decision of pursuing signing of former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, despite that it turned out to be a failed attempt.
Dolphins were among Manning’s hopefuls but the Denver Broncos turned out to be the final choice for the player and Ross has defended to have joined the race.
Ross is known for high-profile pursuits since taking over the charge of the team’s affairs and some of the high calibre players, coaching and front office officials have recently been his targets.
Overall, he has been less successful in his ambitious campaign to add some of star members of the football community to Dolphins.
He is said to be least likely to settle down with his plans and remains upbeat about his ambitious approach in spite of having come under fire from almost all quarters.
Dolphins’ fans are particularly frustrated about the team’s rebuilding approach and about a dozen of them had recently taken to the team’s headquarters to lodge their protest.
Following the protest, the owner is reported to have called a couple of veteran fans and explained them his plans for the team.
He said:
"I'll do it again and again. I'm going to be bold. You know what -- you don't lose for trying. And if I can find the right guy, I'm going to be bold in getting him. I can't worry about losing. Because nothing ventured is nothing gained."
As a result of the failure in signing Peyton Manning, Dolphins have signed David Garrard as a backup for the quarter, Matt Moore. More has been backed by the owner for the starting position again.
Ross said:
"I'm very excited about Matt Moore. People, we got so many people who really liked what Matt Moore did last year. I think as he got more experience, the team got better. That's a good place to start with."
In spite of heightened criticism, Dolphins have not come with as much rash overhauling and hiring firing as some of other teams have done in the offseason.
This shows that the management is apparently pleased with the team’s strength at certain positions and are likely to come out into the next season with an approach similar to the previous year’s one.
Only big change in the team is of the head coach. Ross has fired former coach, Tony Sparano, and brought in Joe Philbin, the offensive co-ordinator in the Green Bay Packers, as his replacement.
The owner is content about the replacement more than any other member of the management and it will be seen how much the team improves with the new head coach in place.
Meanwhile, Ross denied to have had any ambitions to pursue signing of Tim Tebow, who following to the arrival of Peyton in Denver was traded to the New York Jets.
