Miami Dolphins’ pass-rusher Cameron Wake skips offseason workout to press deal demand-NFL News
Miami Dolphins’ pass-rusher, Cameron Wake, who recently made headlines over his demand for a new contract from the team, is learnt to have skipped the voluntary offseason workout to make the management take note of the matter.
In one of his remarks, Wake warned the managers against showing up in the squad without a new deal and the absence from the voluntary workout appears to be his first step towards pressing of the plea.
Wake is into last year of his present deal and is expected to earn $65,000 over the period. Dolphins had taken him on board on a four-year deal worth $ 4.9 million in 2009. It included $1 million as guaranteed money.
However, the player has now demanded a new deal from the team and said he will not join the squad without getting a fresh contract.
The demand has left the team in a difficult situation once again.
The management has already come under fire from fans, who at one occasion protested before the front office of the team, accusing management of not making serious efforts for pursuing signing of the players like Indianapolis Colts’ former quarterback, Peyton
Manning.
Later, the management was able to play down the controversial situation and assured fans of doing all what it could to rebuild the side at different positions.
Fans have accused Dolphins’ managers of the inability to make bold decisions, which they think are essential to the stability of the team in the longer run and moving towards right direction.
Some reports have pointed out that a large number of Dolphins’ fans are still not happy over the measures that the management has recently taken. As a matter of fact, many of them simply do not buy what the managers say.
Now, the demand of Wake of landing him a new contract is seen further complicating the situation for them. So far, none of the managers has said anything related to the demand.
It is not clear if they are going to succumb to the player’s demand or will take an alternative route to get the issue resolved.
Since the management has not come out with an official take on the matter and the terms of the previous deal remains unknown, it is difficult to ascertain and speculate a possible outcome, especially the one that could be workable for both sides.
It is pertinent to note here that the player still has a year left in the previous contract and it remains unknown whether there is a condition in the deal, which could make him honour it, or else there is another way out for him if he does not get his demands
accepted by Dolphins.
The situation remains to be the difficult one for the managers in the wake of lacking credibility in front of the team’s fans.
