Miami Dolphins performance report – NFL Special Part 2
In this part, we will look into the games played by Miami Dolphins from Week 4 to Week 7 of the 2012 season.
Dolphins were unable to grind out good results and were looking to give better performance. Apart from the season opener against Houston Texans, Dolphins remained competitive in the rest of the games and lost by small margins.
Week 4: Arizona Cardinals
Dolphins got their second consecutive overtime loss as they were beaten 21-24 by Arizona Cardinals.
It was again a tale of two halves for Dolphins. They were completely dominant in the first half, ending the second quarter with 13-0 score.
However, it was the same old story in the second half as Dolphins lost the lead in a way similar to their Week 3 game.
Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb scored three crucial touchdowns in the second half to level the game 21-21 after which kicker Jay Feely scored a 46-yard field goal in overtime.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill gave away two interceptions and was sacked once. Cardinals capitalised on the turnovers given by Dolphins.
Tannehill finished with 26 of 41 for 431 yards and one touchdown. Running back Reggie Bush was back on the field after getting a knee injury in Week 3. Bush looked a bit sluggish on the field as he averaged 3.9 yards per carry.
Week 5: Cincinnati Bengals
Dolphins finally got their first win on road as they beat Cincinnati Bengals 17-13. Dolphins defence played a vital role in restricting Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton from throwing a touchdown throughout the game.
After throwing away the lead in the final minutes in their last two games, Dolphins managed to hold on to the lead this time.
The defence was able to contain Bengals Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green as he was restricted to nine catches for 65 yards.
Dalton was sacked three times and was intercepted twice.
Dolphins running game resumed their normal service as running backs Daniel Thomas and Bush both got a touchdown each.
Tannehill also put up his career-best passer rating of 92.3 in this game. He completed 17 out of 26 passes for 223 yards with no interceptions.
Week 6: St. Louis Rams
Dolphins were able to grind out a win in a 17-14 victory against St. Louis Rams. Dolphins offence was able to recover from four penalties they gave in three consecutive plays.
Tannehill scored two touchdowns and finished with 21 of 29 for 185 yards. Dolphins’ running game was disappointing as they carried the ball 17 times for 36 yards.
The passing game also remained unimpressive as Dolphins best wide receiver Brian Hartline was unable to get a single catch due to Rams’ stout defence.
It was not a dominating win for Dolphins, but after losing two tight games they deserved to have a change of fortunes.
They entered their bye with 3-3 and at second spot in AFC East.
