Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill does not have any structural damage – NFL News
Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill had an MRI examination on his injured left knee on Monday, October 29, 2012, and has been diagnosed not to have any structural damage.
However, according to reports circulating in the media, Tannehill is not likely to participate in Week 9 game against Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, November 04.
Tannehill got injured during the first quarter of Week 8 game against New York Jets.
The quarterback bruised his quadriceps and a bone in his left knee after getting a sack from Jets linebacker Calvin Pace. Talking to reporters after the game, Tannehill said:
“I could have gone if it was an emergency situation so I wanted to keep it as loose as possible, keep bending it, keep moving it around and try to keep that swelling from getting too bad, I’m going to do what I can to get ready to go and get that swelling
out of there.”
Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said that it is still uncertain when Tannehill will be able to return to the field.
After getting the injury, Tannehill was replaced by backup quarterback Matt Moore, who had an outstanding game and took the Dolphins to a 30-9 victory.
Moore completed 11 out of 19 passes for 131 yards and scored a touchdown. Moore, who was named as Dolphins’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2011 season, finished the game with an astounding 96.6 passer rating.
He had contested with Tannehill for the starting spot in the preseason before the rookie was named the starter for the 2012 season.
However, Moore believes he is ready to take any opportunity that comes in his way. He said:
"The majority of my career, I've been a backup, I just prepare and know that the opportunity can come at any time. When you get in there, manage the game, don't turn the ball over, but at the same time take your shots and make big plays. That's just how
I approach it."
This season Tannehill has completed 120 out of 203 passes and covered 1,472 passing yards and scored four touchdowns.
