Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill ready to take on Houston Texans in season opener – NFL News
Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will return to his hometown to make his regular season debut as Miami Dolphins face Houston Texans on Sunday, September 09, 2012.
The eighth overall pick of this year’s draft will face the league’s second-best defence. It will be a tough task to overcome the Texans defence comprising mostly veteran players.
Tannehill is looking forward to having a great game at Houston. He is preparing himself to take maximum benefits out of the opportunity he has got. Tannehill talked about his debut on Wednesday, September 05, and said:
“I’m excited, obviously. This is a big time for me. I’m excited to be a starter in the NFL. It’s been a goal of mine for a long time. I’m ready for the game. I’m excited for it. I’m just trying to take it day-by-day preparing as much as I can every day and
be ready to go come Sunday.”
Tannehill was initially drafted by Dolphins new head coach Joe Philbin as a long-term prospect, but not as an out-and-out starter.
Tannehill’s debut will change the history of the franchise as he will become the Dolphins first-ever rookie quarterback to be the starter in the first game of the season.
Even Dolphins legends like Dan Marino and Bob Griese were not able to achieve this feat. Tannehill has got the starting position after showing superb performances during the offseason and in preseason games.
The quarterback has developed a good reputation among his teammates. Players like veteran quarterback Matt Moore previously came out and praised the level of maturity Tannehill had shown during the preseason.
Tannehill took no time to learn the schemes and the offensive system Dolphins currently have in place.
The main reason for this relative calmness is the fact that the player has a bit of understanding of the system as he previously played under the same system at Texas A. & M.
Coach Philbin has full confidence that the rookie quarterback will be able to absorb the pressure of playing in the professional league, just like he did in the preseason.
