Miami Dolphins receivers concerned about prolonging of QBs competition – NFL News
Miami Dolphins’ receivers have become wary of being dragged into the team’s quarterback competition between the trio: rookie Ryan Tannehill, incumbent Matt Moore and veteran David Garrard.
They hope the final winner of the competition emerges at earliest possible, as this will help them know for sure whose throws they will be receiving this season.
All the quarterbacks are ready to take on each other on the starting line at training camp. While a number of analysts as well as the teammates foresee Tannehill most likely playing at the no. 3 position, the real competition is left between the incumbent
and veteran.
The situation appears a saleable story for their ‘Hard Knocks’ documentary that HBO has committed to film this season or may be for a feature film but this is no way pleasing or comfortable for the receivers. Wide receiver Brian Hartline said of the situation:
"At some point we got to start working with one guy as opposed to the rest. You want to know sooner than later.”
He added:
“You need situations where he throws a bad ball, but you bail him out. You need to gain confidence in that, and vice versa. You run a bad route, but he's got your back. You want to start feeling that. You want to [have a chemistry] where he just throws the
ball up and you begin to make plays for each other."
Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross had earlier predicted continuation of the competition until preseason, which looks to be the certain case. With Tannehill almost decided for a backup role, it is hoped that the challenge might well be over at training camp, either
Matt or David winning the leading position.
Some commentators see the odds slightly in favour of veteran Garrard. It is not just that he looks to be a better player but the fact that the Dolphins have already tested the incumbent Moore as the offence leader before. They are most likely to give an
opportunity to this season’s new arrival Garrard, hoping he brings along some success to their compelling offence leadership position.
It is better for the receivers to know the starting quarterback as soon as possible.
