Miami Dolphins release injured quarterback David Garrard – NFL News
After watching all of the preseason games from the sidelines, injury-plagued quarterback David Garrard was released by Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, September 04, 2012.
Dolphins have been waiting for a long time to make the decision about their backup quarterbacks Garrard and Matt Moore.
Dolphins were trying to get a possible trade for Moore who has failed to impress head coach Joe Philbin.
The decision by Dolphins does not come as a surprise as Garrard faced difficulties in recovering from his knee injury. Gerrard thanked the Dolphins fans for their support. He gave a message via Twitter. It said:
"To all the dolphins fans thx for ur support! Best of luck to all my teammates. Thx for making me feel at home!! Phins up!!"
It was not the first time that Garrard had missed the game due to any injury. He failed to play even a single game last year because of his back injury.
Moore, who is also fighting from his injuries, is currently in a much better condition than Garrard.
After Dolphins announced that rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be the starter in the upcoming season, it was expected that Dolphins would release at least one of their backups who were getting hefty salaries.
Garrard had hopes that he would get the roster spot with Dolphins, but he had the realisation that his chances were limited. After a recent practice, he said:
"My only thing is, hopefully my name is on the 53-man roster when it's game day. If not, I just got to be ready to do something somewhere else. I'm just trying to be smart as I can without delaying myself too much. I'm not going to force myself to do anything
to hurt myself in the long run, period. Wherever, if it's here or somewhere else."
Before the start of the offseason, Garrard was expected to be the Dolphins starter, but the injury turned the things over as he had to go through knee scope.
Garrard played nine seasons with Jacksonville Jaguars before being released prior to the 2011 season.
