Miami Dolphins reshuffle their roster, sign wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, cut Legedu Naanee – NFL News
Miami Dolphins made some drastic changes in their wide receiving corps on Tuesday, October 02, 2012, as they signed veteran wide receiver Jabar Gaffney while waving wide receiver Legedu Naanee.
Gaffney was released by New England Patriots after he was diagnosed with an injury to his right hip during the offseason.
He played with Washington Redskins last season and produced his career-best figures after receiving 68 passes for 947 yards. Those stats were the highest by a Redskins’ player in the 2011 season.
Gaffney has played 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), during which he has received 443 passes for 5,622 passing yards and 24 touchdowns.
In order to make space for Gaffney on the roster, Dolphins have cut Naanee, who failed to live up to the expectation that was built around his sensational offseason performance.
Naanee received just one pass this season, only to fumble in the next play in Week 4 game against Arizona Cardinals. Gaffney will definitely be a good option as compared to Naanee.
Gaffney brings in an ample amount of experience in the receiving corps, which the Dolphins lacked since releasing veteran wide receiver Chad Johnson this offseason after he was convicted of domestic violence charges.
Gaffney will be backup behind starters Davone Bess and Brian Hartline. He got the opportunity to work out with Dolphins this offseason and was impressive with his performance. Talking about Gaffney, Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said:
“Jabar had great experience up there when he was in New England and he certainly knows how to practice and how to prepare. So we’re excited about the culture that he’s coming from and so we think it’ll be a smooth transition for him. He’s had some pretty
good seasons and done some really good things and we hope he can replicate that here.”
With the starting wide receiving corps at the peak of their game, Dolphins look to have made another brilliant move that will be helpful to quarterback Ryan Tannehill in getting good output.
