Miami Dolphins rookie QB Ryan Tannehill double-minded about starting role-NFL News
Miami Dolphins’ rookie quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, is not sure if he is going to land at the starting position straight on the start of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, which will be the first of his pro career.
Tannehill, who was rated to be the third best QB coming out of the college league in this year’s draft, held from April 26 to 28, said he always preferred to compete for the role and that was what he believed in.
Some of the veterans who have seen him displaying his talent and skills have dubbed him as a “mature rookie”, seeking to approve his credentials for the starting role into very first season of his career.
QB, David Garrard, has spoken of the player’s impressive ability of learning the playbook so swiftly, which even some veterans are unable to do.
Meanwhile, centre, Mike Pouncey, has said that the Dolphins have found “a very mature rookie” in form of Tannehill.
A couple of media reports have quoted draft experts commenting that the player will still need at least a year to adapt to the requirements of the professional league before being assigned the top spot in the quarterbacks scheme of the team.
Yet a number of them believe that the player has potential to perform into the leading role straightaway.
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, is one of the football community members who called the player a hidden talent.
In spite of the endorsements from many members of the community, the player himself is not sure of getting the starter’s position. Instead, he said that he believed in competing for it.
Tannehill said:
"I don't know. They haven't told me anything. I'm just going to go in and compete. That's what I want to do every day, go in and compete. I want to play, but I don't think they've really spelled out their plans for me."
Tannehill is another QB who along with top draft pick, Andrew Luck, second overall pick, Robert Griffin III and Brandon Weeden are being projected for the starting role from their very first season.
