Miami Dolphins season analysis till Week 15 – NFL Special Part 2
We continue our season analysis of the Miami Dolphins’ performance in the 2012 season. In this second part of the series, we will review the games played from Week 4 to Week 6 of the regular season.
As the season got going, Dolphins’ young roster started to face tougher competition from the other competitive teams.
The eighth overall pick of this year’s draft, rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill, showed signs of brilliance on some occasion while going through pains of developing stage on others.
After the first three weeks of the season, the team stood with a 1-2 record. Dolphins were unable to grind out wins in tough situation.
Week 4: Arizona Cardinals
It was the second time in a row that Dolphins lost the game in overtime as they got a 21-24 defeat in Week 4 against Arizona Cardinals.
The Dolphins looked like two different teams in each half of the game. In the first half the team managed to put up a hefty 13-0 as the defence kept the Cardinals offence shutout while the offence went on to score two field goals and a touchdown.
It was a completely different scenario in the second half as Cardinals completely dominated the game and scored 21 points which included three touchdowns.
The game went into overtime as both teams ended up with 21 points each during the regulation.
A 46-yard field goal from kicker Jay Freely gave Cardinals the victory and Dolphins their third loss of the season.
Week 5: Cincinnati Bengals
Dolphins went back to winning ways as they grinded out a 17-13 win over Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5. It was Dolphins’ first win on road this season.
It was a quality performance on both sides of the ball that give the Dolphins victory. The defence had a big game as they were able to hold back Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton through most of the game.
Dalton was sacked for as many as three times during the game and also threw three interceptions. He completed just 26 out 43 passes 234 yards and got a score.
On the offensive side, Dolphins running game got the most out of given opportunities as running back Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas got a touchdown each.
Tannehill also looked in exquisite touch as he completed 17 out of 26 passes for 223 yards and did not throw any interceptions.
Week 6: St. Louis Rams
Dolphins got their second consecutive win as they got a 17-14 win against St. Louis Rams in Week 6.
The Phins got the victory thanks to a resilient performance by Tannehill who threw two touchdown passes during the game and finished with 21 of 29 for 185 yards.
After excelling in the first five games, the running game put up a disastrous performance in this game as the team put up a mere 36 yards on 17 carries.
The passing game was also not of great help either as the Dolphins top wide receiver Brian Hartline did not have a single pass thrown towards him. The offence also gave four penalties during three back-to-back plays.
As the Dolphins went to their bye week, they started to win games despite not giving a dominating performance on the field.
