Miami Dolphins season analysis till Week 15 – NFL Special Part 3
As we continue our season analysis of the Miami Dolphins’ work on the field till Week 15 of the 2012 season, we will now look into games that were played after the bye week.
Dolphins had their bye week in Week 7. At that point, Dolphins had a 3-3 record and the season was going on relatively smoothly.
Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill had performed beyond expectations on a few occasions. On the other hand, running game had been a revelation for the team as both running backs Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas had been firing on all cylinders.
Week 8: New York Jets
Dolphins returned to field after having a week of rest in the bye. It was second meeting of these two teams in the season.
Dolphins got the better of Jets this time as they defeated the Gang Green 30-9 to get their third win in a row.
Tannehill got injured early on in the game. He was replaced by backup quarterback Matt Moore.
Moore went on the field and produced marvellous performance that led to the Dolphins’ win. He completed 11 out 19 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive end Oliver Vernon returned a blocked punt early in the first quarter for a touchdown to give the team an early lead.
Running back Daniel Thomas continued his good run of form as he carried the ball 15 times for 42 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Week 9: Indianapolis Colts
Dolphins took on Indianapolis Colts who were going through a pleasant time with their no.1 overall pick Andrew Luck.
The rookie quarterback took no time to dismantle the Dolphins defence. Luck put up a stunning performance, breaking the league record for most passing yards covered in a game by a rookie. Luck completed 30 out of 48 passes for 433 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Tannehill also gave a decent performance. The quarterback finished with 22 of 38 for 290 yards and a touchdown.
Dolphins’ running game looked flat despite having Bush back on the field.
Week 10: Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans exposed the loopholes Dolphins had on their roster as they thrashed the team from Miami to get a 37-3 win.
Titans quarterback Jake Locker completed 122 passing yards and scored two touchdowns while running back Chris Johnson carried the ball 23 times for 126 yards and a score.
Tannehill showed his inexperience as the quarterback threw three interceptions against Titans’ stiff defence.
Dolphins’ running game was again dismal on the field. Bush fumbled the ball during the game which was returned for a touchdown.
Week 11: Buffalo Bills
Miami Dolphins continued their fall from the top of the American Football Conference (AFC) East as they got a 14-19 beating in Week 11 from their division rivals Buffalo Bills.
Dolphins never got a chance to take control of the game as Tannehill was unable to flex his muscle against Bills’ astounding defence led by defensive end Mario Williams.
Tannehill finished the game with dismal stats of 14 of 28 for 141 yards and a touchdown. The quarterback threw two interceptions.
Bills running back C.J. Spiller was the star of the show as the quarterback ended the game with 22 carries for 91 rushing yards and no score.
