Miami Dolphins sign Anthony Fasano to a two-year contract extension
The Miami Dolphins locked up five-year veteran tight-end Anthony Fasano on Tuesday with a two-year contract extension worth $7.75 million. The contract includes a $2.1 million signing bonus. Fasano’s base salary in 2011 will be $1.9 million, and in 2012
it will be $3.6 million. Each season also has a $75,000 workout bonus.
This is Fasano’s third year with the Dophins after spending two years with the Dallas Cowboys. He’s accumulated 1429 yards in his career on 118 receptions. He also has 13 career touchdowns. So far this year he has 25 receptions for 367 yards with three touchdowns,
and is fourth in both catches and yards for the Dolphins.
Last week, Fasano was Miami’s leading receiver with 107 yards, a career high, on five receptions. He also scored a late touchdown to seal a 29-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
He’s not one of the league’s elite tight-ends, but he can catch the ball and block, and he does well with those assets under head coach Tony Sparano’s system. Sparano was a coach in Dallas when the franchise drafted Fasano.
The Dolphins are 5-4 this season and trail the New York Jets and the New England Patriots in the AFC East, who both have 7-2 records. For Miami to have success this season they’ll need to have players like Fasano increase their productivity. They’re still
in the running for a Wild Card spot, but with quarterback Chad Henne struggling, the team will need their receivers to help him get back into form.
Since he began his career in the NFL in 2006, Fasano has only missed two games. He has started every game for the Dolphins this season.
He was traded to the Dolphins in 2008 along with linebacker Akin Ayodele for a fourth round draft pick.
