Miami Heat, Charlotte Bobcats, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards win: NBA roundup 12th April (Part-1)
Miami Heat edge the Atlanta Hawks, 98-90
LeBron James pounded a game-high 34 points, ten rebounds and seven assists as Miami Heat took down the Atlanta Hawks 98-90 in their own backyard. With this win the
Heat enfolded the second spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks have now lost their fourth game in a row as the regular season approached its culmination. The turning point of the game was the second quarter, which saw
the Heat taking a 34-23 advantage. The teams finished the first half at 62-46.
In the second half, the Hawks desperately tried to make a comeback and reduced the lead to a single point, 85-86; with 5:16 minutes remaining on the clock. LeBron
James and James Jones however drained a couple of baskets in a row as the Heat hung on for an eight point win. For the Hawks, Josh Smith was the leading scorer. He added 17 points along with six rebounds.
Charlotte Bobcats squeak past the New Jersey Nets by 105-103
The Charlotte Bobcats finally broke their six games losing streak on Monday night as they defeated the New Jersey Nets after a close game at Prudential Center, Newark,
NJ.
The Nets on the other hand, lost their third game in a row. Although their centre Brook Lopez played tremendously, scoring team high 31 points, the Nets ended up
on the wrong side due to a game winning shot by D.J. Augustin in the dying seconds of the game.
Sasha Vujacic tied the game by landed a three point in 10.9 seconds remaining on the clock and made it 103-103. The Bobcats however got the last possession of the
game and they didn’t spurn the opportunity. Augustin ended with a jumper in the final second of the game which took the Bobcats towards a splendid victory.
Dante Cunningham led the Bobcats by scoring 21 points while Boris Diaw added 20 points.
Orlando Magic tame the Philadelphia 76ers, 95-85
On Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Orlando Magic defeated the Philadelphia by 95-85. Magic’s centre Dwight Howard and forward Jameer Nelson
both scored 19 points each while Ryan Anderson contributed 18 points from the bench. The 76ers were led by Elton Brand, who scored 22 points.
The Magic offense exerted pressure on the home team from the very and raced onto a first quarter lead of 34-25. After an even battle in the second frame, the Magic
then produced a big third, where they outscored the Sixers by 26-15. In the final period, although the 76ers reduced the lead, but it was not enough to take over the Magic.
Washington Wizards stun the Boston Celtics in over time
Playing without the Big Three, the Boston Celtics lost out 95-94 against one of the weakest teams in the league, the Washington Wizards in overtime on Monday night.
In the first half of the game the Celtics had the upper hand and were leading the game by 44-37. But in the third quarter the Wizards played very well and out-scored
the Celts by 23-16, thus tying the game at the end of the third period, 60-60. In the final quarter, the score remained tied as the both teams added 24 points each and the game proceeded to overtime. The scores were still tied at 92-each with 38 seconds remaining
in the extra time, when Jordan Crawford landed with a three point shot which took the Wizards towards a splendid victory.
John Wall scored a game high 24 points along with nine rebounds. The Celtics were led by Jeff Green and Glen Davis, both of whom scored 20 points apiece.
