Miami Heat 21 vs. Boston Celtics 11 – First Quarter Breakdown: NBA Playoffs 2012
Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals was played out between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics on Monday night at the American Airlines Arena.
Miami got off to a great start in the game and held a 21-11 lead after the first quarter.
The men from the South Beach were led by LeBron James who racked up 13 points in the quarter to go along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Dwyane Wade had 4 points and 2 rebounds whereas Shane Battier chipped in 3 points on a 1-3
shooting display from long range after the first twelve minutes of the ball game.
On the other hand, the Celtics were led by Kevin Garnett, who racked up 6 points in the first period while Paul Pierce had 2 points. Ray Allen, who had only just come over his shooting woes in the previous game, was back in the
slump again. He attempted 3 field goals in the period and failed to make a single shot and his only point of the quarter from the free throw line.
The remaining two points of the quarter were scored by Greg Stiemsma, who came off the bench to replace Garnett with 4:28 remaining in the period.
The lack of productivity on the offensive end from the Celtics was mainly due to the fact that their star point guard, Rajon Rondo failed to open his scoring account and was also responsible for turning the ball over four times
in the frame. Brandon Bass also was unable to register a point to his name in the period.
Boston were woeful with their shooting in the first quarter; they attempted 20 field goals in the period and were only successful on 5 occasions making their conversion rate 25% in the frame. On the other hand, Miami were 1-5 from
long range and were 9-20 from the field in the first quarter.
The impressive start for the Miami team was much courtesy due to the way they ran up and down the court in transition. Heat started the game at a very rapid pace and were quickly leading 17-9 in the ball game with 3:19 remaining
in the quarter before closing it out, holding a double figure lead.
