Boston Celtics rally back in the second quarter against Miami Heat to tie the game at halftime
After a slow start to the opening game of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics came to life in the second quarter against the Miami Heat to tie the game up at 46-each at the halfway stage.
The C`s, who only managed 11 points in the opening period, upped the ante in the second by managing 35 points, while holding the Heat offense as well.
Rajon Rondo, scoreless in the opening period, erupted for 8 points in and also dished out 3 assists, making it 5 assists in the ball game. Paul Pierce also had a good second quarter with 8 points, taking his tally to 10 points
at the half way stage.
Kevin Garnett also managed 7 points in this quarter to take his total to 13 points at the half. He started the frame with a three point and then made two quick baskets to set the tone for the C’s. Ray Allen finally knocked down
a triple midway through the quarter to make it a six point game, 31-37. He then added another point from the stripe to take his total at 5 points.
The second quarter performance from the Celtics was a complete turnaround from the one they showcased in the first. They had players coming off the bench to score on key occasions; Greg Stiemsma led the way in that aspect with
4 points.
On the other hand, the Miami let themselves on the D. Even though they managed 25 points in the second frame but their effort on the defensive end could have been better.
LeBron James could only manage 4 points in the second making his total 17 points at the half. Mike Miller gave the Heat a boost to start the second quarter by scoring all 8 of his points. The reserve was 2-2 from beyond the arc.
However the rest of the Miami team failed to continue the intensity, and Boston capitalized by reeling off a 9-0 run enroute to a tie at the break.
