Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass took over in the second quarter as the Boston Celtics continued to dominate the Miami Heat in the second quarter of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals
After a relatively quite first quarter, Paul Pierce drilled two three pointers early in the second and Brandon Bass then went on a scoring spree as the Celtics continued to lead the Heat.
Pierce added 8 points in the frame to take his tally to 13, while Bass chipped in with 10 points to enter the break with a game-high 14 points. He also had 3 steals till halftime.
Allen added four points in the second period, while Rajon Rondo dished out 5 more assists to take his game tally to 10.
For Miami, Chris Bosh added 7 (9) more points in the period. LeBron James had 6 (14), Dwyane chipped Wade 4(9) and 3 (5) assists while Udonis Haslem and Mario Chalmers contributed with 3 points apiece.
Bosh started the period with a mid range jumper and after Pierce replied with a three, the power forward struck with a jumper and a three pointer to tie the game at 30. Both of Bosh’s shots came on Wade’s assists.
15 second later, Garnett missed a fade away jumper, but Ryan Hollins grabbed the rebound and converted the possession into a dunk.
James Jones tried to sink a three on the other end, but it didn’t find the inside of the cup. Pierce grabbed the rebound and then knocked down a trey to make it a five point game again, 35-30.
Bosh turned over the ball on Miami’s next trip allowing Pierce another three point attempt. That one however did not go in, and in the following minute, James and Haslem combined for five points to tie the game, this time at 35
with 6:50 remaining in the half.
That was where Bass took over. The Boston forward scored 10 points in 14-3 run which pushed the Celtics to a 49-38 lead, their largest of the game.
Wade and James scored four points each in an ensuing 8-2 Heat run which brought the deficit to 5, 46-51, but an Allen layup gave the Celtics a 53-46 lead.
