Miami Heat 47 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder 46 - Second Quarter Breakdown Game 3: NBA Finals 2012
In the second quarter of Game 3, Oklahoma City Thunder performed like the team everyone has grown accustomed to. They outscored the Miami Heat 26-21 in the frame to be trailing only 46-47 at the halfway stage.
Miami at the same time, after making an impressive start to the game, saw a drastic dip in their conversion rate. They shot the ball 7-22 in the period, missing 15 field goal attempts and were only helped out by the exploits of
Shane Battier from behind the three point line.
Battier managed to finally get going late in the quarter by knocking down a crucial three pointer at the 1:51 mark to tie the game up for Miami. Later he went on to knock another triple to give his team a 4 point advantage.
Along with Shane, LeBron James managed to get 6 points to take his total to 16 points. Dwyane Wade chipped in with 7 points in the frame to lead Miami on the offensive end while the remaining 2 points of the period were scored
by Udonis Haslem from the charity stripe.
For the Thunder, Kevin Durant chipped in with 7 points while Russell Westbrook continued to equal him on the scoring end by managing 7 of his own. James Harden and Derek Fisher were able to open their scoring accounts in the period
by getting 3 points each.
Kendrick Perkins continued to be a dominant force low down in the post by hitting a reverse layup on Harden`s assist and making a successful trip to the free throw line by drawing a foul off of Chris Bosh.
It was not like the Miami team had trouble getting shots off, however they were troubled with their ability to connect on their attempts with several droughts coming on various occasions in the period.
From the 10:16 mark to the 7:14 mark, Miami had a scoreless stint during which they missed all their 7 field goal attempts and to top it all off, Wade also missed a technical free throw in that span.
Another scoreless stretch came from the 3:59 mark to the 1:52 mark during which Durant scored 5 points to give the Thunder their first lead of the ball game which turned out to be pivotal for the visiting team to find their way
back into the game.
