Miami Heat President Pat Riley in no mood to break up the Big Three – NBA Update
In the aftermath of the NBA Finals heartbreak, many suggestions have been circulating about how the Miami Heat need to break their Big Three trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to be really effective. In fact, some rumours have gone on to suggest that the Heat are actually in a process of doing that.
It seems that Heat president Pat Riley has had enough of these nonsense rumours. Riley has sent a message to GMs around the NBA that none of the Big Three are open to a trade. The message although sent to the GMs was actually directed at the larger NBA public.
The breakup of the Big Three has become a fascination for many in the league just after their first year together. Actually it’s been going on before the season ended.
It started early, with the Miami Heat struggling to hit the ground running. Rumours or suggestions could be heard in that rough patch that the Heat could maybe trade Chris Bosh. These died down as Miami got into top gear but rose again after the NBA Finals.
True, the Heat were beaten by the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games. True also, that the marvellous Dirk Nowitzki upstaged the vaunted Big Three on the biggest stage. However, it is also true that the Heat were only 2 wins away from claiming a NBA World Championship in just their first year together, that they were better then everyone in the East and all but one team in the NBA.
So the whispers of a LeBron James trade, which grew louder as the Finals progressed, are pretty ludicrous. Pat Riley therefore did the sensible thing to nip the speculation in the bud.
Riley knows what anyone sensible enough can see; the breaking up of the Big Three would be an idiotic thing to do. First off, who can the Miami Heat get in return for any of them that can make the team better? LeBron James, as much as he has been vilified the past year, is still arguably the best all round player in the league. His overall contribution and the way he shut down the live wire MVP Derrick Rose are something to behold.
Dwyane Wade is untouchable. He is the home boy so to speak and with Kobe Bryant now on the decline, Wade is probably the best shooting guard in the league. The last of the three, Chris Bosh is a monster as well, though not as powerful as the other two. He still is the best the Miami Heat could get in his position. Who would want Pau Gasol after his performance in the playoffs this year and Bosh is not going to fetch Dwight Howard in return.
Then there is also the undeniable fact that the Heat with the Big Three are the favourites to win the NBA World Championship next season and a few seasons after it as well. They are the strongest unit in the league and next season they would have had more experience playing together and will be better for it.
So breaking up the Big Three of Heat – simply out of question.
