Miami Heat cruise past Detroit Pistons 100-94
Guard Dwyane Wade scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed four rebounds, as the Miami Heat beat the Detroit Pistons 100-94, at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday night.
Chris Bosh registered 23 points, two assists and seven rebounds in the victory. While LeBron James chipped in 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Heat, who won their third straight game.
Richard Hamilton scored a game-high 27 points and also pulled down four assists and two rebounds in the defeat. Greg Monroe finished with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Tayshaun Prince posted 13 points in Detroit's second consecutive defeat.
Both Hamilton and Prince scored six of their points in the opening quarter as Detroit held a 27-21 lead going into the second. Miami fought hard in the second quarter to make the score a respectable one, outscoring the Pistons 32-28, to trail by just two
points (55-53) at half time.
The Pistons got themselves back into the game in the third quarter, as they managed to take an 81-73 advantage into the final stanza.
Down by eight after three quarters, the Heat started the fourth quarter on a 15-0 run to take an 88-81 lead with less than seven minutes to go until the final buzzer. The Detroit bench tried to spark a comeback in the closing minutes but by then the game
was out of their reach.
Orlando Magic thrash New York Knicks 111-99
The Orlando Magic extended their winning streak to four games after thrashing the New York Knicks 111-99 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.
Magic's centre Dwight Howard finished with a game-high 33 points and 11 rebounds for Orlando. Guard Jameer Nelson posted 19 points while forward Hedo Turkoglu ended with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Carmelo Anthony added a team-high 24 points and nine assists for New York in the defeat. Chauncey Billups and Toney Douglas each racked up 17 points for the Knicks, who lost their fourth consecutive game.
Both teams started the contest ice cold, but the Magic managed to make it to the free throw line early, taking a 28-25 lead into the second. The Knicks got it going offensively in the second quarter and converted the opening quarter deficit into a 59-55
lead at half time.
New York outscored Orlando 24-19 in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 79-78, heading into the fourth. The Magic got their rhythm back in the fourth quarter, as they went on a 9-0 run to take a 90-82 lead, which they held the rest of the way to seal
the win.
