Miami Heat dominate against New Jersey Nets; Chris Bosh, LeBron James on song in a 108 – 78 win – NBA Recap
The Miami Heat on Tuesday handed a resounding defeat to the New Jersey Nets 108 – 78 at the American Airlines Arena. The Heat were completely in control during the game and an efficient team performance guided them to the easy victory.
Miami welcomed back power forward Chris Bosh, who had missed the last few games because of injury, for the game. Bosh played like he had never been away and scored 20 points in around 25 minutes on the floor. After the game he spoke of his delight at getting back in action.
"That's the thing I love about this game. Even if it's just for a couple hours, you get to just go out there and live your dream and be who you're meant to be, do what you were put on this Earth to do. It's always good to just have that just to get away just for a little bit. I've been looking forward to it for a while. I wanted to get back out there in the worst way."
LeBron James though was the brightest star on the court for Miami, scoring game high 21 points, grabbing game high 9 rebounds and also dishing out 6 assists. Dwyane Wade also tallied 13 points for the Heat.
On the other hand, it was a very sorry scorecard indeed for the New Jersey Nets. Star point guard Deron Williams, who recently destroyed the Charlotte Bobcats with a 57 point display, scored 16 on the night along with 4 assists.
No one else from the Nets was able to hold their own against the Heat’s relentless charge. MarShon Brooks and Johan Petro barely made it into double figures.
New Jersey Nets got off to a quick start, going up 7 – 2 early. However they couldn’t hold on to their lead for long as the Heat battered them down in the first period, a 17 – 4 run taking Miami to 22 – 13, and ended in control at 30 – 17.
There was no respite for the Nets in the second quarter either as Miami continued their assault. Heat opened the frame with a 9 – 0 burst, which set the tone and continued to pound the Nets, eventually going into halftime at 64 – 37.
It would only get worse for the Nets after the interval, with Miami were simply unstoppable, scoring whenever they wanted. The Nets suffered even more in the final quarter and the gap between the two sides increased to an embarrassing 40 points before the game ended at 108 – 78.
Nets coach Avery Johnson conceded after the game that his team were just not up to scratch after the game.
"We were down early and we were down late. They were about three steps quicker than us tonight. They played on a more of a playoff level and we played on more of a preseason level."
