Miami Heat giving Josh Harrellson another chance to impress – NBA Update
According to latest reports, former New York Knick reserve centre, Josh Harrellson is on the verge of signing with the Miami Heat. Harrellson had a tryout with the Heat recently and based on his performance the Miami management
have decided to give him another shot.
The player made the announcement on his Twitter account and is hopeful of landing a contract with the reigning NBA Champions.
"Kentucky it's been fun! Glad I got to see everyone! Now heading to Miami for hopefully the next 9 months."
Originally a number 45 pick by the New Orleans Hornets in last year’s draft, Harrellson’s rights were traded to the Knicks. The 6 ft 10 centre played 37 games for the Big Apple franchise, with 4 starts. During that span he averaged
4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game.  Harrellson was traded to the Houston Rockets during the summer as part of the Marcus Camby deal but was released shortly afterwards.
He is now on his way to South Beach and is hopeful that he can convince the Miami management to give him a contract. However according to sources close to the matter Harrellson will be coming in on a 10-day tryout with no guarantees
of a contract.
He will have his work cut out to make a impressive showing as not only would he have limited time at his disposal but will also be competing another big man Mickell Gladness, who has also been called up for a try out at the American
Airlines Arena.
Miami are well short at the centre position and Joel Anthony is the only player that genuinely falls into the category. However, over time Miami have grown to make do without a big man on the floor and even this season forwards
like Shane Battier, Rashard Lewis and Udonis Haslem can fit in well to their small ball system. Chris Bosh and LeBron James are also more than capable of switching at the position if the rotation requires.
At the moment, Miami have 13 players under guaranteed contracts and according to NBA rules they are allowed to hold 15 players on contract during regular season. Given their apparent weakness, the Heat might sign both Harrellson
and Gladness.
