Miami Heat guard Mike Miller ready for the Amnesty Clause - NBA News
Whenever the National Basketball Association lockout is going to be lifted, one thing is for sure that many contracts of the NBA players will be waived as the amnesty clause is expected to be a part of the new Collective Bargaining
Agreement (CBA).
The amnesty clause gives a one-time opportunity to the team’s owner to do away with the worst contract from their books. Although the teams still will be bound to pay the salaries to the players according to their contracts however
the franchises will be freed from paying any luxury taxes on those remunerations.
Many NBA players are expected to come under the radar of the amnesty clause and among them is Miami Heat shooting guard Mike Miller. However, Miller has said that he has no problems whatsoever in discussing the possibilities;
"Just preparing myself; never know what can happen. If anything happens with the amnesty, this is just going to be a business decision and I can respect that," he said. "Teams will only get one opportunity to use it. I can respect
that part of it." Miller said.
After signing the 31-year-old Miller into the team, it was expected that the guard will help Miami in taking the load off Dwyane Wade. However, as a result of the elongated injuries throughout the 2010-2011 season, Miller was unable
to create the kind of an impact which his 30 million dollar contract with the Heat demanded.
"My thumbs aren't causing any problems. Every once in a while, when I go to play I haven't been able to do the things I wanted to do as far as wrapping them up with the training staff, that's what's made it a little more difficult.”
Miller said.
This is why, many including Mike Miller himself believes that Miami Heat will use the amnesty clause on their first-year shooting guard, who also has Miami’s highest salary in the coming season after the superstar trio of LeBron
James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Miller is on the road of recovery has been using the elongated off-season to get back to full fitness. However, given the over-stretched salary cap of the Heat, chances of him being waived off are pretty high.
