Miami Heat head Coach Erik Spoelstra promoting healthy living in his NBA Fit Philippines tour
The Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has publically pledged his life-long commitment to stay healthy. Spoelstra is currently in Philippines where he is promoting the National Basketball Association (NBA) Fit programme and spreading
the message of healthy and active life style among children and youngsters for better future.
Spoelstra, who himself is a believer of healthy and active lifestyle, briefed about his own routines and eating habits which always helped him to stay more sporty and energetic.
“During the season, obviously, I sleep a little bit less but that’s when I learn how to discipline myself because of the pressure and expectations, I like to run, work on the spin bike, I do yoga which helps me physically and emotionally,
I try to learn more about nutrition, to fuel my body for the energy I need to sustain, I try to eat fruits grown out of the ground, not processed food that saps your energy. Sometimes, it’s easier to eat something quick and easy and lots of time, its junk
food that I crave for. It’s critical for professional players to be physically fit, to know how to treat their bodies and learn about nutrition.”
Spoelstra’s visit to the Philippines started on 1st August. He is an NBA Fit team member and he is visiting his native country as an NBA Fit Ambassador. In the past few days, he has attended several events which endorsed
healthy and active life style among Philippine’s children, youngsters and young athletes. Spoelstra is accompanied by several other Heat coaching staff and trainers who worked with Philippine Under-16 National Team in Manila and also spent some time with many
young players in several workshops.
The Filipino-American star is visiting Philippines for the second straight year. This milestone global initiative of NBA is already showing some positive results in several parts of the world and heading in right direction. This
programme has certain objectives and goals. While primary objectives include the healthy living for all members of the society, this programme also encourages the importance of healthy and active life style among children.
Erik Spoelstra, who is currently coaching the Miami Heat, is the first Filipino-American head coach of any NBA team. The 40-year old Spoelstra has spent almost 16 years in the league. He made his NBA debut in1995 when he worked
with the Heat as a video coordinator. Later in 2008, he became the head coach of Miami Heat.
