The Miami Heat go all out in support of their superstar guard and lodge a complaint against the one game suspension which kept the player out for the game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.
Dwyane Wade has faced a storm of criticism after intentionally kicking Charlotte Bobcats point guard Ramon Sessions in the groin area during Wednesday’s game at North Carolina. The incident resulted in a one game suspension for
the star Miami Heat shooting guard, and Miami suffered a surprise 109-99 loss against the lowly Detroit Pistons, which has their six game winning streak snapped.
However, well before the game actually began, Wade received a vote of confidence from the people who actually matter, his team, the coach and most importantly, the Miami Heat management.
In a rather unusual turn of events, the franchise has complained to the league office regarding the suspension and has also highlighted the extra physical treatment which the superstars in the team get from opponents. The team
has asserted the Wade is one of the players most of the oppositions "takes privileges with" and have also drawn league’s attention towards the player’s career record, which is clean in this regard.
"While we accept the decision of the NBA regarding Dwyane Wade, we do not agree with it," the team said. "In his 10 years in the league, Dwyane has never been suspended, and has been an exemplary player and positive influence to
his teammates and fans and we have been honoured to have him as part of the Miami Heat family. Unfortunately, he is the type of player, along with other players on our roster, that defenses take privileges with. We stand with Dwyane and support him in this
situation and have made our feelings known to the league office.
The player himself has maintained that the kick was inadvertent and was the result of the physical defence which Session was trying to do. Wade said that he would take the one games absence as a ‘rest day’ and look to be ready
for the game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.
