The Miami Heat paid a visit to the capital and it did not end well for the home side, Washington Wizards. The Heat blew away the competition at the Verizon Center in Washington as the Big Three of Miami got into a rhythm and put their stamp on proceedings,
leading to a 106 – 89 victory.
The crowd wasn’t too pleased with their team suffering at the hands of Miami, but they were happy to witness some exhilarating plays from the Heat stars, especially Dwyane Wade and LeBron James as the two starts combined to often to spectacular effect.
"It was very fun. That's why we play this game. He makes me look good, so I think that's what the fans came to see. They love to see their favourite players do amazing things." Wade said of the chemistry between him and LeBron after the game.
Dwyane was the top scorer in the game with 26 points and LeBron James had 18 along with 9 assists. Chris Bosh turned in a strong performance, getting his double-double at 24 points and 11 rebounds. Outside the Big Three, Shane Battier impressed with 15 points
off the bench.
Washington Wizards were successful in putting up some highlight plays of their own, even when they were never really able to compete on the score card. Their coach commented about it after the game, saying it’s always tough to take be on the wrong end of
the highlights, so it was good that his team had some fun as well.
"Nobody wants to see that show going against you. I thought we had a little bit of a show of our own."
Washington Wizards centre JaVale McGee had a good night out, and wasn’t really outdone by some of the more illustrious names from Miami. The same couldn’t be said for teammates though, and McGee believed the occasion proved too big for them.
"Sometimes, yeah. Sometimes, they see LeBron out there. They see D-Wade out there," McGee said. "They say: `Oh my God, he's going to work on them."'
JaVale McGee was the pick of the bunch for the Wizards with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Live wire point guard John Wall played pretty well for his 15 points and 10 assists while Nick Young scored 22.
The Heat were always expected to be the stronger team in the matchup, but it was the Wizards who raced ahead at the start. Washington were aggressive in an early 9 – 4 run but it didn’t take Miami too long to catch up. Miami made a 9 – 4 run of their own
to get ahead and finished the first quarter on top 23 – 19.
An 8 – 2 burst to start off by Miami set the tone for the second period. The Wizards were actually able to claw down the lead to 2 at one occasion, but the Heat responded with a brilliant 10 – 0 spurt to establish a double digit advantage. They were up
by double figures when the first half ended 52 – 42.
