Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade talks about knee troubles and possible surgery – NBA Update
The Miami Heat are riding high after winning only the second NBA World Championship in franchise history and a first with the power trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh leading the pack. Among the three, Wade has won an NBA Championship before but he is also the one facing some serious injury concerns.
Wade has been suffering from knee trouble throughout the post season, which was a below par one for him despite the NBA Championship run. The player, living in the moment and enjoying Miami’s win at present, revealed that once he is done with the celebrations he will sit down and decide whether to get knee surgery or not.
“When everything dies down this week, I will sit down with doctors — those that I trust — and make the best decision for me and my career,” he said according to the Miami Herald. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I won’t know until I sit down with [the doctors] and have an MRI and see what’s wrong with my knee and what I have to get done.”
One possible incentive not to have the surgery is Wade’s participation in the London Olympics 2012. The firebrand guard is one of the senior members of Team USA and does want to represent his country defend gold in London. He will have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of the decision, as his knee has become more and more of an issue.
As he explained himself, it is affecting his game already.
“My left knee is my power knee. It’s my explosion knee. When you are dealing with knee issues, you are dealing with lateral quickness [issues]. I dealt with it. At times, I did great with it. At other times, I didn’t do great with it.”
The troubled knee was indeed responsible for some of Wade’s less memorable showings in the post-season, such as the one in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Indiana Pacers where he had only 5 points as well as a bust up with coach Erik Spoelstra.
The former NBA Finals MVP has played through pain so far, but going through another tournament without proper rest could be more than even he can manage.
