Miami Heat star LeBron James says he won't apologize to Kendrick Perkins - NBA Update
LeBron James, despite arguably being the best player in the league, is not adored and respected by many as he should be much because of his off court activities.
When he moved from Cleveland Cavaliers to Miami Heat in 2010, to give himself a chance at grabbing his first ever NBA World Championship, probably no one actually wanted to see him getting that accolade, which is a pity.
At the start of this season, James made clear that he would work hard to gain respect and improve his image in the mind of his fans, players and everyone else. And he had been doing a good job so far.
But few days ago, he again said something which has ruined all his good work, apparently. It was nothing unethical and was not meant to offend anyone; however, unfortunately, it drew lot of criticism.
His mistake was only that he quoted Blake Griffin’s dunk over the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kendrick Perkins as the “best of the year”.
Impressed with the Los Angeles Clipper’s sensation Griffin’s dunk, LeBron tweeted.
"Dunk of the Year! @griffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I'm No. 2 now. Move over #6.
Kendrick Perkins did not seem to like his comment much and later reacted that LeBron wrote it to embarrass him. According to him, there are other players like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, much better than LeBron, who did not
express themselves. Then why LeBron?  Perkins later said LeBron owes him an apology for this.
LeBron however believes he has not said any such thing and won’t be apologizing.
"Did I call him out? I mean, did you read the tweet? Did I call him out? I can see why he felt embarrassed. I don't think I was the only one to react to the unbelievable play by Blake and that's what it was all about.”
"Now, if Kendrick Perkins dunked on somebody like that on the other end, I would have done the same thing. If Perkins dunked on Blake Griffin, it would be the same thing”.
Although LeBron has a valid point and he is not guilty of any obnoxious thing, but this saga would not help him in augmenting his image, something he desperately wants.
His team mates have not yet supported him on this but in coming days, we might see them coming out and defending him.
