Miami Heat survive Sacramento Kings with a 141-129 win in double-overtime: NBA Recap
Miami Heat were pushed to the limits by the Sacramento kings on Tuesday night but came out strong in the end, downing the Kings 141-129 here at the American Airlines Arena. It was the second consecutive game in which Heat made
it really tough for themselves, but kept their winning streak alive which stretched to 12 games on the back of this latest win, the longest ever in the big three era.
As is often the case, it was left to LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to carry Heat to victory after a not so convincing start to the game. James finished off with 40 points to go along with a season high 16 assists and eight rebounds
while Dwyane Wade fell one point short of the 'King' as he posted 39 points and 8 rebounds.
Heat shot an impressive 55.4 percent from the floor but were made to sweat for the win by Kings. Miami were down by as high as 8 points early in the first half, but a strong fourth period performance brought them back in the game.
The visitors were led by Marcus Thornton who scored 36 points coming off the bench.
"It was a great atmosphere," said Thornton, who made 11 of 18 shots, including 8 of 12 from 3-point range. "To be able to take that team to two overtimes just shows the testament of us growing. A team like that - championship team
- they play great together. Obviously I hate losing but it was a great effort by us.”
DeMarcus Cousins gave a full court performance with 24 points and 15 rebounds while Tyreke Evans posted 26 points in the losing cause.
The game was close for the most part as no team piled up a major advantage at any stage of the game. Heat were up by 8 points with less than 2 minutes to go in the regulation but Thornton fired two back to back three pointers to
make it a two point game and Cousins made a tough layup to tie the score and take the game into overtime.
The first overtime was close and no one was able to pull away, with the result that the match got dragged into the second overtime.
James took over for the Heat in the second overtime, and alongside Wade scored quick buckets to set up a Miami win in the end.
